Created for the 5 Gyres Institute, as a part of their Plastic Education Kits
In 2014 I created this series of illustrations for The 5 Gyres Institute, in support of their efforts in tackling plastic pollution in oceans and large bodies of water. One of the many things they do is offer educational tool kits for schools.
They were asked to provide some examples of the harm aquatic life face due to the excessive amount of packaging waste that winds up in our waters, often from single-use packaging most of us use daily.
I re-interpreted the photos from their kits with watercolor illustrations and stylized titles. They've been so successful that Kleen Kanteen has used them, and facilitated their continued use with the Department of Fish and Wildlife. In that line of thinking, I'm also making a jpeg version available here and via the Creative Commons.
